The Osun State Police Command said it has mounted an intensive manhunt to arrest criminals that attacked commuters along Ibokun/Osogbo Road, Osun State.

Earlier, DAILY POST had reported that some gunmen with AK-47 rifles and suspected to be herdsmen, on Tuesday evening, killed one person while two others sustained gunshot injuries along Osogbo/Ibokun road of Osun State.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm. The gunmen, it was gathered, emerged from the bush and blocked Ibokun/Osogbo road, along Oja-Tuntun area, Egbeda town.

The driver of the vehicle, while attempting to manoeuvre and escape the blockade, was shot dead while two other female passengers sustained bullet wounds.

It could not be ascertained if the gunmen were robbers or kidnappers, a police source told DAILY POST.

The Police in response to the distress call rescued two other female passengers with bullet wounds to a hospital where they are responding to treatment.

The Prompt Response Unit (PRU), Joint Task Force and Amotekun operatives are combing the forest.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, led the combined team of Police officers, vigilante and local hunters to comb bushes to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

The police boss, in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola warned criminals to have a rethink as the Command had declared total war on unscrupulous elements, adding that the state is not a safe haven for criminals.

He further reiterated his resolve that all forms of criminality would be checkmated in all nooks and crannies.

“Criminals are warned to have a rethink as the Command has declared total war on unscrupulous elements,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police enjoined members of the public to support, co-operate and collaborate with the Police in fighting crime.
