There was pandemonium on Monday in the Jos Central business area, otherwise called Terminus, as a stray police bullet hit a trader during a clash between commercial motorcyclists and law enforcement agents.
It was gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. when the policemen within the commercial area were trying to bring sanity to the area by enforcing the ban on motorcycles within the Jos metropolis.
An eyewitness disclosed that in the process of the enforcement, the policemen impounded a motorcycle that belonged to one of the commercial motorcyclists, adding that this led to an open confrontation with the police.
He added that while trying to retrieve the bike from the police, there was pandemonium as other commercial motorcyclists joined the fray.
The eyewitness mentioned that the gunshots released into the air to scare the Okada riders and other people away hit a trader, who died instantly.
It was further learned that the unfortunate incident confused the area as traders and other people within the vicinity hurriedly closed their shops and took to their heels.
When the Tribune Online visited the scene of the incident, the police had taken over the business district to restore peace to the affected area.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, said his office would have details of the incident available before the end of the day.
