Rafael Nadal has continued his off-court activities as he recovers from surgery, winning the XXXII Robinson Classic Solidarity Golf Tournament to raise money for the Rafa Nadal Foundation.

22-time Grand Slam champion Nadal last played professional tennis at the 2023 Australian Open, where he suffered a disapointing loss in the second round to Mackenzie McDonald.

Since then, the 37-year-old’s injuries led him to undergo arthroscopic surgery, from which he is currently recovering as he prepares to return to the sport for at least a brief time in 2024.

During his time away, Nadal has been involved in several off-court activities. Most recently, this has seen him take part in a philanthropic golf tournament to raise money for the Rafa Nadal Foundation. The charity uses what they call ‘the transformative power of sport’ to try and ensure equal access to opportunities for children.

The golf tournament was held at the Vall d’Or Golf Cala Serena Club in Mallorca. Margha Prohens, the President of the Balearic Islands – of which Mallorca is the largest – was the guest of honor and congratulated the winners, including Nadal.

“A pleasure to participate in the awarding of the XXXIII Robinson Classic Golf Tournament for the benefit of the @frnadal, for children’s inclusion projects through education and sport. Congratulations to all the winners, especially to @RafaelNadal, the absolute winner,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, originally in Catalan.

This was the eighth edition of the Robinson Classic Solidarity Golf Tournament, and it raised a total of €62,120. This money will go towards initiating projects for the Rafa Nadal Foundation, which are developed across Spain and India with ‘sport and education as pillars of [their] intervention.’

Some current projects include the Nadal Educational Tennis School and the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centres, which work with children from vulnerable backgrounds in a sports, educational, and psychosocial capacity.
