The Immediate Past Permanent Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Fatai Kolawole has charged the federal government to place regulations on
internet and social media to avert fake news in the society.
Kolawole, who was a special quest gave the charge on Wednesday at the Annual Ramadan Lecture Of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, commended the leadership of the Muslim Community in the station.
He called on media practitioners to always verify any information that they receive before disseminating to the general public in order for them to maintain harmony and peace in the societies.
He also lauded the state of Osun government for ensuring that religious harmony reigns supreme in the state.
According to him, ” This year’s edition is no doubt timely considering the recent experiences about Fake News and the serious consequences we were forced to confront as a nation while we were exciting the hardship brought upon the world as a result of the global pandemic Coronavirus.
“The rise in the global usage of the internet and many accompany social media channels have tremendously aided the spate of Fake News in the entire world.
“Let me thank the leadership of the Muslim Community of lle-Awiye under the chairmanship of Imam Oluwatoyin Yusuff for the invitation extended to me and for keeping faith with this annual Ramadan lecture whose this year theme is Islamic Perspective to Fake News.
