Resilience is a skill with mental ability, strategic positive ability and physical ability as props. It enables one to navigate tough and challenging times or even circumstances. It is the power to courageously climb enormous mountains and not be swallowed. We confront threats with resilience and immediately bounce back.
Resilience is the readiness of an organisation to adapt itself to the consequences of change; whether expected or unexpected. It is the courage to tackle tough issues, make difficult decisions and take focused actions. What does it entail? Planning, adapting and persevering.
The bedrock of resilience is navigating the curves with team alignment, not individual perspectives. Trust and cooperation must be the standard. Team leaders must display empathy and perspective always.
Human psychology says that resilience will deliver benefits at the end of the day. We must therefore always tune in to good and positive vibes; the good stuff, in order to counterbalance the negative ones. When you focus your attention on the good stuff, you make progress with decisions and actions. When you are bombarded by threats, immediately shift your focus, and tune to the good.
Resilient skills compel us to react to challenges with creative thinking. We must challenge ourselves every day to achieve better results and cultivate a positive mindset as well as attitude. Do not give room to fear. Seek alliances, collaborative problem solving strategies and intelligently thought-through decisions as well as actions. We must imbibe and regularly improve on sustainable collaboration building.
Adaptability on the other hand, “is the ability to change or be changed to fit changed circumstances”. Adaptability at the workplace is to be flexible in handling change. When you are confronted by change, you must adjust quickly and get along with the big picture
To be effective and make progress in the workplace, you must not retrogressively stick to the status quo. Have a positive and open attitude. Focus on the big picture. That is, the corporate goals and objectives. Adopt multiple perspectives to solving problems and manage failure with positivity. Learn to ask for help. Ego is always a stumbling block and formidable stronghold in the way of effectively managing change.
Change
Change is a certainty in life and business. It is inevitable. You must embrace it. Be ready at all times, to collaborate to creatively turn change into an opportunity for continuous improvement. When we constantly seek process improvement, efficiency and high quality; adoption of relevant and useful technology and efficient allocation of resources, we definitely must be ready to change, adapt and adjust. Do not ever get emotional about change. Remove obstacles and boldly make salutary progress.
Be the change catalyst. Become a “consultant”. Take stock of your strengths, analyse the situation, identify the opportunities and take control. Proceed with relevant and effective strategies and action plans. It is also very important and a fantastic attitude to help your colleagues navigate the change. We all learn a lot from doing this.
Creativity
Steve Jobs defines change as grasping and utilising different perspectives in order to get better in delivering beneficial values. Creativity is key to success. It makes an organisation resilient. It is the ability to use multiple perspectives to achieve excellent goals. It is also a fundamental human skill that enables us to get better and be, on a continuous basis, sufficiently equipped to take care of the future.
Creativity enables us to use the conceptual knowledge of what we know and we are doing presently, to create something more useful and novel. Expertise and creativity operate in the same domain and guarantee enhanced performance. With creativity, we discover more solutions and also achieve laudable steps.
Creativity enables us to adapt for sustainability. Through it, we constantly build successful and sustainable business models.
Opportunities are not stagnant. We must re-imagine and reinvent our services. We must create greater values through new and unique services. We must process feedbacks and give them the necessary attention.
Holding colleagues accountable
Carrying out your roles from the point of view that “everybody will do it” will not deliver expected results. We must inspect what we expect by way of diligent supervision. There must be consequences for those who do not measure up. Also, process analysis must become a mechanism or instrument for continuous improvement.
Productivity
Outcome and output must be diligently monitored. When performance is measured, performance improves. Faithfully bond with empathy; drive the team to greater heights and be ready to make adjustments. We must adopt outcome accountability. Be smart, fast, and efficient.
Alignment
Our watchword must be that “I do not want to mess up what the organisation has put in my charge”.
Operationalize great plans with team members. Be aligned and always strive to strengthen the alignment.
We are on the driver’s seat together. We may not agree all the time, but we must remain aligned. We must climb the enormous mountains together and come out of the various challenges together.
Outcomes must be created in alignment. Strong partnership, honest and genuine togetherness as well as great alignment will most assuredly, deliver goals and objectives.
Organisations are springboards for personal growth and development
Professor Susan Rice, an expert in social psychology, said the workplace is the “means for you to move up for self-actualization”. As you are diligently delivering your best, you are indeed, gloriously moving up the ladder of the Almighty God’s ordained destiny for your lives.
Conclusion
The organisation is about our people. We must therefore, be authentic (drive integrity and fulfil promises); highly professional (be efficient and communicate effectively), passion-driven (follow your hearts and exceed targets), and exude the principles of empathy, acceptance as well as leadership.
