The Campaign Council of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has lambasted the state chapter of Accord Party for displaying gross ignorance of what government and governance are all about.

Adegboyega Oyetola Campaign Council also expressed disappointment at the leadership of the party for publicly showcasing mediocrity as regards basic understanding of how government works.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the Campaign Council described the allegation as public display of incompetence.

The APC Campaign Council tasked Accord Party to enrol for remedial course in order to be acquainted with necessary rudiments of government and governance.

The State Chairman of Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, had in a statement accused the ruling party and its candidate of awarding a road project in less than two months to the election and few months to the expiration of the governor’s four-year tenure.

According to Akande, awarding a contract only two months to the governorship election is a source of concern. He wondered why an administration whose tenure is expected to end in November 2022 would award contracts for roads proposed to be completed in 2023.

Reacting to the spurious allegations, the Oyetola Campaign Council said the statement has further exposed the lack of capacity of the Party and its leadership to lead a highly-sophisticated State like Osun.

The APC Candidate Campaign Council wondered how a Party would stoop so low to publicly display shame by going out of its way to condemn a widely-accepted and highly-celebrated project like Osogbo-Okinni-Ilobu-Ifon road that has been in a deplorable condition over the years without a concrete remedy.

The Oyetola’s Campaign Council charged Accord Party and its leadership to learn the rudiments of government and governance, saying this would help them to know that government is a continuum.

The APC Campaign Council asked if Accord Party was saying that government could only award contracts whose completion only falls within the timeframe of the tenure of such government.

“It is unfortunate that a political party would because of politics go out of its way to condemn a noble project like Osogbo-Okinni-Ilobu-Ifon road which is meant to ameliorate the lives of the citizens and bring some level of appreciable succour to the road users who had hitherto being faced with needless hardship.

“The statement credited to the State Chairman of Accord Party is not only misleading but also a reflection of ineptitude and gross incapability of the Party to lead a state like Osun.

“The allegation has in great measure, shown that the Party lacks focus, basic understanding of how government works and the rudiments of good governance. It is shameful that the party fails to understand that government is a continuum.

“It is important to place on record that government and governance are not meant for rookies but rather, it is a serious task for the highly-sophisticated, responsible and responsive minds. And if truly the quest for quality and purposeful leadership remains the collective goal, whoever is at the helm of affairs must be up and doing.

“It is also important to educate the leadership of Accord Party that the decision of Mr. Governor to award the contract was not only in order but also a necessity. They need to know that award of projects can be done at any time subject to its necessity and citizens’ popular demand.

“And as to Osogbo-Okinni-Ilobu-Ifon road which was recently flagged off for rehabilitation, the Party should know that the project has been applauded as a right step in the right direction in view of its economic importance to the welfare and well-being of the citizenry, particularly the motorists and other road users plying the roads”, the statement reads.
