In an interview with claytennis.com, Simon Chambers has disclosed intriguing insights about tennis icon Roger Federer. Chambers, who engaged in an array of conversations with Federer for his forthcoming book, disclosed that the Swiss maestro anticipated some negative feedback but was taken aback by the absence of substantial criticism. The book titled ‘The Roger Federer Effect’ is poised to present a positive portrayal, as Chambers highlights the widespread admiration Federer enjoys both within and outside the tennis sphere.

The journalist spoke with Sergiy Stakhovsky, who had defeated Federer at Wimbledon 2013 when he was the defending champion. Referring to the interview with the Ukrainian, Chambers said, “Sergiy has always been someone who has strong opinions, I thought he could say that Federer is quite arrogant, because some of the things what Federer says, if you just read them, without being in the room, you would think, oh my god, this guy is arrogant!”

Chambers also said that this was not the opinion in the press conference room itself. The people in the room could see it in their facial expressions. They could see that being arrogant was not quite his intent. It was simply the words he said, especially in English, which could sound arrogant to the unknown ear.

Roger Federer has many times been credited as ‘the nicest guy’ on tour. Most players have very nice things to say about him. Federer has also been one of the most influential players and has created a great impact on the sport.

Simon Chambers said Sergiy Stakhovsy and Roger Federer do have a good relationship. This is in spite of the fact that the Ukrainian upset Federer at Wimbledon 2013. Chambers also mentioned that the Swiss was very nice to Stakhovsy’s mother when they met in Dubai. He also said the Swiss great stopped to talk to her.

Chambers also said that, “After beating him at Wimbledon they practiced together. Federer showed a lot of generosity, was willing to give him a lot of advice and help him as a player.” According to Chambers, Federer helped Stakhovsy with his game through practice sessions together. He also gave a lot of advice to better Stakhovsy’s game.

This shows that despite his many laurels, the Swiss maestro is still as humble and generous as everyone portrays. Roger Federer currently holds the record for the most consecutive weeks at World No. 1 with 237 consecutive weeks. He is also the first man to reach the threshold of 20 career Grand Slam titles.
