The Provost of the College of Education, Osun state University, Professor Florence Adeoti Yusuf has said the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Youth Club in cultivating global citizens committed to addressing the world’s challenges.


The Don discussed this at the inauguration of the Osun State University Sustainable Development Goals Youth Club (UniOsun SDGs Youth Club) which took place at the College of Education Ipetu-Ijesa Campus.

She highlighted the importance of empowering students to become agents of change and emphasized the role of education in achieving the SDGs.

The Provost, who also launched the club’s media handles which will provide platform for members to engage and share updates equally represented the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Clement Odunayo Adebooye.

According to her “The inauguration of the SDGs Youth Club at Osun State University signifies a commitment to fostering positive change and addressing global challenges. ”

She noted that “the journey ahead may be challenging, but with passion, creativity, and collaboration, the members are poised to make a meaningful impact. Stay tuned for exciting developments and activities from the UniOsun SDGs Youth Club”

Also in his welcome address, Dr. Peter Sanjo Adewale, the Coordinator of the Department of Environmental Education, Osun State University expressed his delight in the inauguration, highlighting its significance in fostering a community dedicated to action and progress.

He emphasized that the club aims not only to advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also to serve as catalysts for change through education, advocacy, and concrete actions.

Dr. Adewale encouraged students to embrace innovation and resilience and called upon the University management and staff to support the students in their endeavours.

The guest speaker, Ambassador Obadare Adenekan, Africa Regional Officer for the United Nations SDSN, who due to his involvement in SDGs activities has won more than 7 grants and youth conference sponsorships addressed the members of UniOsun SDGs Youth Club.

He informed members that their membership in the SDGs Club automatically qualifies them to be members of United Nations SDSN Youth and SDSN Nigeria. He urged students to undertake projects aligned with the SDGs, highlighting available opportunities such as grants and conferences sponsored by the United Nations.

Professor Anthony Kola Olusanya, the Professor in the Department of Environmental Education, emphasized the indispensable role of younger generations in achieving the SDGs.

He urged club members to actively engage in spreading awareness and involving their peers in SDGs-related initiatives, stressing that meaningful change requires collective effort especially that of the youth.
