Senator Babajide Omoworare has formally notified the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of his intention to contest for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, stressing that the move was a “notification of intention,” not a formal declaration yet.

The legal practitioner and seasoned politician, addressed party leaders and supporters, emphasizing his readiness to lead APC to victory and unseat the current government.

“I am here to notify the party that I intend to be the governor of Osun State under the banner of our great party. This is not a declaration but a formal notification,” Omoworare said.

Speaking at the APC Secretariat, Osogbo on Monday, Omoworare stated that his aspiration is rooted in a desire to ignite an economic and infrastructural renaissance in Osun.

He acknowledged that internal mismanagement, not PDP’s strength, caused APC’s loss in the last election, adding that the party will regroup and reclaim victory.

“PDP didn’t win the last election. APC lost it. We had internal management issues. But we’re putting our house together. We will win the next election.”Omoworare said.

He recounted his political journey, asserting his unbeaten record in elections he has contested, both in Lagos and Osun. He also recalled how, after his initial victory in Osun was overturned, the court ordered a re-contest in over 1,000 polling units

Omoworare, rooted his political heritage in Afenifere and Action Group traditions. He traced his lineage to the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Aderemi, and proudly identified as a lifelong progressive.

“My sister was the first female deputy speaker in Nigeria. My great-grandfather was Afenifere. My father was a school principal and councilor. I ran under AD, I won; under AC, I won. Now under APC, I will win again.” he reiterated.

Emphasizing that governance is far beyond “breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” describing it as a serious call to fix infrastructure, stimulate economic development, and deliver essential services to the people.

In his address, Omoworare highlighted the pressing need for improved governance.

“Politics and governance is not just about breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is about delivering basic needs and amenities to the people, fixing infrastructure, and serving as catalysts for economic growth.” He stated.

Drawing on his extensive political experience, he declared, “I am prepared to do it, I’m schooled, and I’m tutored to do it,” crediting Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a key influence on his political journey.

“I didn’t learn politics from someone else, I learnt directly from Tinubu,i’m a proud alumnus of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu school of politics, Bourdillon campus, he declared.

He described the present state of development in Osun as stagnant and promised a people-focused administration if given the opportunity. Referencing the 15 billion naira bridge project in Ife, he argued that similar investments should prioritize rural roads to improve food access and reduce inflation.

“Over 40% of food does not get to the market, according to NBS.If given the chance, I’ll Fix rural roads, and food will reach home, presently,Osun has the worst food inflation rate in the Southwest,” he lamented.

Omoworare also dismissed fears of political threats, insisting he is not intimidated and that his strength lies in his deep grassroots connections.

“I don’t lose my unit, I don’t lose my ward. I’m not scared. I am a five-star general in this game by the grace of God,” he concluded.

Speaking, the APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal described the party governorship aspirant an astute politician and core progressive, saying the party will provide a playing level ground for all aspirants

Lawal however, charged Omoworare and other co-contestants to maintain peaceful consistence among the party members, saying they should work in unity adding that what must be achieved is for the party to take over power come 2026.
