Wozniacki: “I’m happy to be back”
Caroline Wozniacki hadn’t competed in an official match in over three years, but time spent with family didn’t take her toll in Montreal.

The Dane defeated Kimberly Birrell 6-2, 6-2 and lit up Center Court at the Stade IGA.In the press conference she said: “I’m happy. A little tired. It was fun to be here again playing on Center Court in front of a big crowd.I’m thrilled to have won my first game in three and a half years.

Didn’t really know what to expect. So many things go through your head: what you should do on the pitch. I had no idea what to actually do, as I hadn’t played a real game in so long.I didn’t have to get down after a mistake or get too excited after a great shot.

I am happy with my performance. It’s not easy to win a game when you haven’t played in a while. I felt the love of the audience. I was nervous, you always want to start right in these cases. It’s basically like riding a bicycle: you never forget how to do it.

First, it was a different day. When I went to bed last night, I thought about when the kids would wake up and my schedule.I woke up early and had breakfast with them. It was funny, but it was also amazing to see their smile. I tried to explain to Olivia that I was going to play a game and she was like, Ok, mom.I wish you to win.

I’m thrilled to be back competing, and I think it’s special for me to have my family here. Going back on tour with my children is special. I think it’s a gift for them to travel and get to know new places. We also get to spend a lot of time with them, so we won’t miss out on their growth.”Finally, the Danish player talked about her mentality and her physical form: “I always want to be the best version of myself as a tennis player. When I’m on the pitch, I always try to give 100%.

I love being a mom, it’s the greatest gift life can give you. I try to enjoy every moment. I think I have always worked very hard physically and tried to keep fit. Of course, playing a real game is different.”
