The Special Adviser to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Youths and Sports, Aremo Adegboyega Adelabu has identified sports as one of the viable tools that can be used to end the insecurity challenges bedeviling the country.

Adelabu who stressed the importance of Youths among the Nigerian population called for the speedy promotion of sports to keep the Youths engaged.

He said majority of Nigerian Youths are into banditry, kidnapping and other terrorism activities as a result of their idleness.

Adelabu made this known on Thursday while playing host to Osun male and female basketball team who were just crowned 2021 champions of the Ilupeju under 16 classic championship tournament held in Lagos.

Addressing the Ilupeju under 16 classic champions, the SA Youths and Sports said that the Oyetola adminstration is posed to supporting the basketball team of the state including other sporting teams. This he said will ensure that the sector enhances youth development for talents not to die prematurely.

He congratulated the team for making the state proud by outshining other basketball teams in their latest outing, saying they have demonstrated that with determination and hard work, set goals can be achieved.

The Governor’s aide enjoined them to continue in the spirit of champions, always make the state proud at all tournaments and promised that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to support them in all ramifications.

He assured the team that the Ministry will be partnering private sectors to ensure that different competitions are organised for their development as basketball players in the state.

“We will be partnering with old students’ association of different schools in Osun in order to organize competitions like tennis, basketball, football among other sports ” the SA said.

He equally, sought their support for Governor Oyetola at all times in order for the state to continue to achieve success in the sport sector.

Head coach of the Osun basketball team, Mr Taiwo Ajibola popularly called Eleniyan appreciated the SA for creating time to host the team in his office.

Highly elated Eleniyan maintained that since he has been coaching the state basketball team, Adelabu’s predecessors have not given the team opportunity of an audience with them, saying his love to them will continue to be appreciated.
