The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has called on Nigerian leaders to end promoting foreign products at the expense of the local products.
Ooni made the call on Thursday, at the celebration of his 8th coronation anniversary held in his Palace, Ile-Ife.
He charged National Assembly to promulgate a law that will promote Nigeria-made products to create more jobs for unemployed youths in the country.
According to him, most of our local industries are gradually dying due to patronage of foreign products and overdependence on dollar which had been affecting the economy of the country.
Ooni urged political leaders to promote local industries in the country, saying most of the local campanies are gradually going into extinction.
He said it is high time our leaders are serious on the local production to strive, stressing that stakeholders must promote local economy through indigenous companies. “Let’s our leaders support local industries to allow our unemployed youths to be gainfully employed”.
Ooni noted that leaders in the country should look inward to ensure that everything they used are manufactured in the country. He averred that National Assembly should make laws that will promote local industries in the country. “Seventy percent of our products should be locally made. National Assembly members should use seventy percent locally made products”.
“If we continue to patronize to locally made products, the country will be better. Stop deceiving us in this country. Enough of promoting foreign products. Let’s support our local industries for the betterment of the country.
“I am using this anniversary to appeal to our leaders to stop promoting foreign products and we are the ones killing our industries in this country. We must continue to support local companies in order to have our economy strive”, Ooni declared.
He called on financial institutions in the country to support local companies for indigenous industries to strive. “We should not allow our local industries to die. We don’t need to benchmarked our economy on dollar. This is a problem. Let’s patronize made in Nigeria products because charity begins at home”.
Let’s support the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for It to succeed. “Most of what I used are locally made products. I want this nation to grow and standardisation of these products will set in when we continue to support local industries which will grow our economy”.
Speaking on his visit to Kuje prison, Ooni refuted the claimed that he visited former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele in Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.
He said, he was not in Kuje Correctional Centre to visit the former Central Bank Governor but on advocacy visit as being misconstrued by the public.
“Why people try to just misread things in this country. A letter was written to prisons in the country including the one in Ile-Ife. I have assignment in Abuja, but Kuje Correctional Centre is nearby. Then, as part of my coronation anniversary, I visited the prison. The Hope Alive Initiative has programme there which is owed by my queen and I feel to give hope to the hopeless.
“I decided to give hope to those people in the prison including the poor and the rich. It is a very humble experience in the place. I wandered why the media started blowing it off. I didn’t know why people are overblown the issue. Let’s focus on positivity and how our country will be better”,Ooni said.
