Rube Fulbe Global Rights and Development Initiative, a group concerned about the welfare of Fulani, has expressed worry over the way some Fulani herdsmen were handled by security men in a recent viral video.

President of the group, Hajiya Halima Usman, in an interview, said they had to express their concern considering the terrible treatment done to their men.

“We are here to show our concern in respect to the incident that happened two weeks ago in Kakura Millennium City chikun local government area of Kaduna state where some Fulanis were mistaken to be bandits while they are not,” she said.

Halima said further, that, they were not happy with the way the security personnel were throwing those people into the van, treating them like animals.

“We are here to cry to the government both at the federal and state level to treat this issue with caution, considering the harsh treatment meted out on them while referring to them as bandits.

This is not the first time such an incident has happened, it has been on for a while most times you see vigilantes attacking our men and rustling away their cows and when they retaliate or try to collect their cows back, they will be declared as bandits. She said

She commended the Kaduna State Government for its immediate action even though their men have sustained injuries while the corpses of the three who were killed during the attack have been released to them and have been buried accordingly.

“We, however, want the government to come to the aid of these people by paying them for the damages done to them for at least it would lessen their suffering.”

“She explained that the challenges their Fulani herdsmen face in this country is that some security operatives go to their communities attack them and cart away their animals, when they try to get them back, they will end up being declared as bandits

“This is wrong, the life of a Fulani man is not secured because when whenever something happens, the Fulanis will always be accused of doing it, our life is no longer secured, the Fulani men are always at the receiving end, hence our cry because the women end up been destroyed as they would be left with nothing to cater for their family.”

Hajiya Halima then urged the government to come to their aid especially the cattle rustling issue which she said should be treated with urgency.

Recall that the military and police have clarified that the arrested people in a video, which went viral on social media a few days ago, were herders mistaken for bandits who attacked the Kakura community in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.

The meeting had in attendance the State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, Chikun local government chairman, Engr. Salasi Musa, member representing Chikun Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ayuba Chawaza, District Head of Kujama, Stephen Ibrahim, and the Commanding Officer, 312 Artillery Regiment, Lt. Col. D.O Igwilo.
