…we would not hesitate to relocate the secretariat of NANS Zone D to the school gates

The National Association of Nigerian Students, (NANS) Southwest Zone D, has reacted to the inauguration of the newly appointed caretaker committee by the management of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

Recall that the school management suspended the Students Union Government election held on 24th November 2021, following the report of irregularities during the process.

SUG: NANS Reacts As Osun Poly Management Inaugurate Caretaker Committee

The election contested between the two Presidential aspirants ,Banigboye Oluwadamilola PKA Dammy Gold and Irinoye Benjamin PKA Bengee was reportedly received huge participation of the student.

But, on Thursday, the school authority inaugurated caretaker committee to fill the place of students Union Government in the School in the midst of festive season break.

According to information from the school’s social media, “the institution, yesterday, inaugurated caretaker committee constituted to fill the vacuum created by the SUG election that was declared inconclusive by the Independent Students Electoral Committee as a result of irregularities discovered during the election.

“The committee chairman took the oath of office administered by the institution registrar, Barrister B. M. Salawu. The members of the committee thereafter took the oath of office administered by the chairperson.

“While inaugurating the committee, the institution Rector strongly condemned the unruly and aggressive behavior exhibited by some group of students during the election held on 24 November 2021.”

However, the Coordinator of NANS Zone D under the watch of Comrade Tegbe Stephen Fiyinfoluwa warned the school authority to to revoke its decision to inaugurate a caretaker committee.

Fiyifoluwa urged the management to reverse the decision as a matter of urgency to conduct a fresh election in a serene environment devoid of violence to elect the new leadership of the Students’ Union.

Part of the statement Read;

“The Attention of NANS Southwest Zone D Leadership ably led by Comr. Tegbe Stephen Fiyinfoluwa has been drawn to certain publications trending on social media which conveyed the undemocratic attitude and inhumane decision of the management team of Osun State Polytechnic Iree in a bid to scrap the students’ union government and install an unacceptable caretaker committee.

“From Investigation, the leadership understood that at a point in time, the team of the NANS National General Secretary, Comr. Adekitan Adebisi Lukman (Tunice) during his courtesy visit to all institutions in his state of origin few months ago, intervene in this issue when it was still at it’s infant stage, where the management team represented by the Dean Student’s Affairs promise to come out with a lasting solution and make sure an election holds and new students’ union executive emerges.

” Should we have said this was a prank by the management team?
Hence, the leadership counted the above intervention as the consultation and consolidation process.

“It is on this note that we pass a vote of no confidence on the management of Iree Polytechnic, as it shows their lackadaisical attitude towards students’ welfarism, as they show they couldn’t even organise a peaceful and well coordinated students’ union election.

“As a united force and the voice of all students in Southwest, we are sending a stern warning to the management of Iree Polytechnic to revoke its decision to inagurate a caretaker committee and urge them as a matter of urgency to conduct a fresh election in a serene environment devoid of violence to elect the new leadership of the students’ union.

” The management of Osun State Polytechnic should also have it on good records that the leadership of NANS Southwest Zone D would not keep mute and watch students’ right negotiated or be trampled upon. Hence, we would not hesitate to relocate the secretariat of NANS Zone D to the school gates and the management’s buildings until our demands are met.

“An injury to One, is an Injury to All” the statement added.
