Former Wimbledon quarter-finalist Camila Giorgi has made a sudden shift on her Instagram page, posting a series of revealing snaps to leave some questioning whether she is still focused on her tennis career.
Giorgi, who is set to compete at the Australian Open next month, has posted three pictures from a photo shoot where she was wearing red lingerie in the festive season.
The 29-year-old then followed that up with two pictures of herself in a white corset and stockings.
Her intriguing social-media activity has sparked curiosity amongst her 308,000 followers, who are now doubting whether she plans to stay in tennis for much longer.
Italian journalist Stefano Cagelli believes her head may not be in the sport any more, although he was quick to stress that isn’t a bad thing.
“Far be it from us to do useless and anachronistic moralisms, everyone is free to do with their life (and therefore their social showcases) what they believe,” Cagelli wrote for the Tennis Fever website.
“But we would like to use the words that Maria Sharapova said a few days ago to talk about her last months on the courts: ‘I kept getting noticed, but not for my tennis. Then I realised that it was right to stop’.
“Here, if we were in Camila Giorgi‘s place, we would begin to wonder if her goal is still to improve her tennis or if she has something else in mind. Nothing wrong with that, of course …”
Giorgi, who reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2018, has progressed to the third round of the Australian Open for the past two years.
