Eugenie Bouchard, a Canadian tennis pro, posted a snap from the beach in Tel Aviv, Israel.
She wrote under the image: “I (heart emoji) this place. Also you can see the vein I got anti doping in lol.”
However, the image sparked a fierce debate about political relations between Palestine and Israel – an unintentional result.
While Eugenie smiled prettily at the camera in a black bikini, commenters waged an intense back and fourth in the comment section.
Another said: “Israel is the country who brings the most humanitarian aid into Gaza.”
However, there were other more positive statements.
One wrote “Welcome to Israel” with a number of heart emojis.
The debate did not precent Eugenie from posting her holiday snaps.
Another image showed her floating in the Dead Sea in Jordan, and another saw her smothered in mud from the sea bed.
She also later headed to Jerusalem, and wrote under an image of her posing: “The Old City.”
