Three female candidates have won seats in the House of Assembly election held last week Saturday in Ondo state.

They are; Witherspoon Atinuke Morenike, (Owo Constituency I), Fayemi Olawunmi Annah, (Ilaje Constituency), and Ogunlowo Oluwaseun (Idanre Constituency).

The trio, who are all members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were part of the 26 lawmakers elected at the weekend Assembly poll in the state.

This was contained in the final result of the election issued on Tuesday, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to journalists in Akure, Ondo’s capital city.

In the document obtained by Peoples Gazette, the APC maintained the majority seats in the Assembly.

The APC won 22 of the 26 seats in the weekend House of Assembly election held amid low turnout of voters.

The candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were able to garner the remaining four seats in the parliamentary house.

Ondo State is one of the eight states where the governorship election did not hold on Saturday.

The House of Assembly election took place across 3,933 polling units and 203 wards of the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

Four out of the eight incumbent lawmakers who were seeking re-election bids in the Ondo Assembly lost out in Saturday’s election exercise.

They are Tomide Akinribido (PDP – Ondo West), Favour Tomomewo (ADC- Ilaje 2), Taofeeq Muhammed (APC- Akoko Northwest II), and Toluwani Borokini of the (APC – Akure South I).

The four incumbent lawmakers who won their elections are Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi (APC-Owo I), Oladiji Olamide (APC – Ondo East), Ololade Gbegudu (APC-Okitipupa), and Abayomi Akinruntan (APC-Ilaje I), who is winning for the third term).

A total of 208 candidates had contested the 26 seats of the State House of Assembly with 17 political parties participating in the exercise.
