Residents of Iree, Boripe Local Government area of Osun State were yesterday thrown into mourning as generator fumes reportedly killed four inhabitants of the town.
The ugly incident, it was gathered happened at around Yakoyo area of the ancient town.
According to information, four out of the six affected persons died on their sleep while the remaining two are currently receiving medical treatment at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
The deceased were said to be students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, who were having an overnight pre-birthday party on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
The victims who were said to have gotten intoxicated during the felicitation were killed by the fume of the generator which served their apartment and penetrated through the door entrance.
Speaking on the development, Osun State Polytechnic Public Relations Officer, Dr. Tope Abiola confirmed the ugly incident saying no fewer than four persons died.
Abiola further explained that out of the two victims hospitalised , one has been discharged, saying management of the institution is working assiduously to identify the deceaseds’ studentship so as to be able to contact their family.
He said: “We have not been able to identify if truly they are our students”.
He said, their corpses have been deposited in the morgue.
He, however, sympathized with the parents and guardians of the deceaseds.
