The Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society (AIS) in collaboration with the Embassy of the United States in Nigeria have flagged off an educational summit for teenagers and youths geared at equipping them with practical knowledge of how to explore free scholarship and other educational opportunities in the US.
The National Chief Imam of the society, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, said that the 10th annual youth workshop for Muslim teenagers, organised by the society and MacArthur Foundation, in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was also being attended by Christians with participants emerging on merit.
He said the 11-day workshop with the theme, “Teenagers: Living Positively Different,” was to expose them to scholarship opportunities “so that we do not only keep them to pray but also but also make them better citizens.”
The Education Advising Supervisor at the US Embassy in Abuja, Ms. Folashade Adebayo, said that there were so many opportunities out for Nigerian youths in the US that they could tap into.
She said the education section of the US Embassy had earmarked over $23m worth of scholarships for Nigerian students to study in the US.
Declaring the educational summit open, the chairman of the Al-Habibiyyah Enlightenment and Dawah (Propagation), Ambassador Ridhwan Mustapha, said the workshop was aimed at giving youths the right information about education in the US to stem illegal migration.
