Intercourse play important roles in many people’s lives, contributing to physical pleasure, emotional connection, and overall well-being. However, there are situations and circumstances that may lead individuals to intentionally avoid or reduce their engagement in intercourse. This decision can stem from various reasons, such as personal preferences, health concerns, relationship dynamics, or external factors. While the choice to avoid intercourse is deeply personal and valid, it can bring about a range of experiences and effects that individuals may encounter.

According to WebMD, things you experience when you start to avoid intercourse include:

1. Immune System

Regular intercourse activity can have various benefits for the body. One study revealed that college students who engaged in intercourse one to two times per week had higher levels of immunoglobulin A, an important antibody that supports the immune system.

2. Female Organ Walls and Lubrication

For women who have gone through menopause, maintaining intercourse activity can be beneficial for the female organ health. Without regular intercourse, the female organ walls may tighten, and the tissues can become thinner, increasing the likelihood of discomfort, injury, tearing, or bleeding during intercourse. These symptoms can create a cycle where women avoid intercourse due to discomfort, which can further exacerbate the issue. However, treatments such as lubricants, moisturizers, or low-dose female hormone can help alleviate changes related to menopause, including female organ dryness and irritation.

3. Prostate Cancer

When it comes to men and their risk of prostate cancer, the relationship between intercourse and the disease is not entirely clear. Some experts suggest that frequent intercourse may potentially increase the risk by exposing individuals to STIs that can cause inflammation. However, a large-scale study involving nearly 30,000 men found that those who released semen more than 21 times per month on average had lower chances of developing prostate cancer in their lifetimes, compared to those who released semen four to seven times per month.
