The Governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has called on Nigerians to be an advocate of peace at all levels saying developmental activities can only strive in an environment where there is peace.

Oyetola made this known on Monday through his Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs and Social Mobilization, Comrade Kehinde Ayantunde during Osun Walk for Peace 2020 organized by World Institute For Peace to commemorate this year’s International Peace Day, September 21.

The governor maintained that his administration will not relent in its efforts of delivering good governance to the people of Osun by ensuring that they enjoy adequate security of life and property for peace to reign at all time.

He said citizens of the state should see themselves as ambassadors of peace and charged them to desist from all forms of activities that can breach public peace.

Speaking, the Executive Chairman for World Institute for Peace, Mr Lamina Kamiludeen Omotoyosi stressed that the walk for peace became necessary in order to sensitize the populace on why they must be an advocate of peace.

He further stated that the program was to correct the impression of the world that Nigeria is a violent country and restore the confidence of sustaining brotherliness and unity among the citizens.

“We realized that if paramilitary officers could move about in the society without any attack and even show their force strength by sending warnings to hoodlums Nigerians also deserve peace” he added.

He, however, urged Nigerians to ensure that they promote peace in everywhere they found themselves warning that they should not segregate themselves, see each another as brother and avoid causing division through party line, religion and ethnic.

Program Director of Centre For 365 Dialogue, Comrade Waheed Saka said Nigerians deserve peace in of mind at homes, street, State and the country.

Comrade Sake said every citizen must take the advocation of peace as individual responsibility saying Nigeria has turned to a country where citizens no longer trust each other.

“More than two Nigeria has being enjoying uninterrupted democracy but she not get it right. This has put every citizen on the edge of supporting all advocacy for sustainability of peace.

“Religious leaders contributed to environmental mistrust in the country.
They preach more prosperity these days than brotherhood

He urged religious leaders to propagate peace saying whatever prosper they are seeking can only strive in an environment where we value our brotherhood.

“The first religion is humanity, and this can only strive when we continue to be our brothers keeper” he said.
