As Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Osun State Wing on Wednesday joined others to mark this year world Teachers’ Day, Osun State government has applauded the sense of commitment and dedication to duty by teachers, saying the State is blessed with worthy and dependable educators.
Speaking at the well attended programme held at the Osun NUT Secretariat, Osogbo, the state Head of Service, Comrade Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega who represented Governor Gboyega Oyetola said, the government acknowledged the critical roles played by teachers in the State, and praised them for joining in the onerous task to raise responsible and knowledgeable citizenry for the future of the State.
The governor, who noted that teaching was a noble profession, lauded teachers in Osun for their patriotism, sacrifice and commitment to human capital development.
Governor Oyetola, also appreciated the teachers for identifying with his administration and for their understanding and patience.
“The Osun government felicitates with teachers in the State on the occasion of the 2022 World Teachers Day. We wish to use this opportunity to applaud the sense of commitment and dedication to duty by teachers in our State. No doubt, teachers play critical roles in the society and we are glad in Osun that we are blessed with worthy and dependable educators.
“Teaching is indeed a noble profession, as teachers contribute to preparing and shaping the future through imparting knowledge and morals in the children. We commend teachers in Osun for their patriotism, sacrifice and commitment to human capital development. Such commitment has earned Osun State laurels won by students from public schools at both regional and national levels.
“The administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola will continue to prioritise the welfare and professional development of teachers and other workers in the State. We will always support teachers to further impact in students those values that will transform the future of our State positively and build capacities relevant to the needs of the state to reduce the level of unemployment.
“We urge our teachers to remain dedicated to their duties and avoid conduct that can cause disrepute to the teaching profession”.
Delivering his welcome address, the state Chairman of the NUT in Osun, Comrade Adekomi Kabir Adekunle appreciated the efforts of Governor Oyetola towards the review of educational policy of the state saying his contributions in transforming education sectors as well as his love for teachers in the state cannot be over emphasised.
The Osun NUT Chairman commended Governor Oyetola’s led administration for their move in employing additional 1,500 teachers to bridge the gaps of vacancies in the government schools, urging them to expedite action in the recruitment process.
Comrade Adekunle who thanked the entire teachers in the state for demonstrating their unalloyed support to him since he assumed the office, further enjoined government to put plans in place for quality training and retraining of the available teachers to equip them adequately for the task of transforming education for the achievement of SDG 4.
In their goodwill messages, the immediate past Chairman of the NUT in Osun, Comrade Wakeel Amudah, former Secretary General of the union, Comrade Wale Oyeniyi among others congratulated the Osun NUT for the annual event.
They said, the complete efforts of teachers in building the nation is highly commendable saying teaching profession is the head of others.
Delivering the votes of thank, the Osun NUT Secretary, Alhaji (Comrade) Salami Olukayode appreciated the teachers in the state for trooping out enmas for this year World Teachers Day saying their turnout has added glamour to the annual event.
Alhaji Olukayode charged the teachers to continue to work together as one family saying for the teaching profession to remain ahead of others.
This year theme for the World Teachers Day is, “The transformation of Education begins with Teachers”
