The main draw for the WTA 500 2024 Adelaide International has been unveiled, featuring an enticing lineup that includes five top-20 players, led by Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula. Additionally, the former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber is set to make a return, courtesy of a wildcard from the organizers.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 8 to 13, just days before the first major of the year, the Australian Open. This marks the third edition of Adelaide International 2, and notably, it will not feature any former champions Aryna Sabalenka, who is absent to better prepare for her title defense at the Aussie Open, and Belinda Bencic, who is absent due to her pregnancy.

The main draw will bring together many of the best current tennis players, with five of them ranked in the top 10, and all 18 players by ranking within the top 30. This includes the wildcard entries for Kerber and Tomljanovic. With this lineup, five former Grand Slam champions will utilize this last competitive week before the Aussie Open.

Kazakh player Elena Rybakina shared her expectations for playing in Adelaide in an interview with the tournament’s official website. She expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m looking forward to returning to Adelaide. As players, we have everything we need in close proximity to the venue, making it easy to compete. Adelaide as a city knows how to make us feel welcome and bring out our best tennis.”

Other top players to watch in the tournament include Jessica Pegula, Marketa Vondrousova, Karolina Muchova, Barbora Krejcikova, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Madison Keys, and Jelena Ostapenko.
