By Ismail Azeez, Osogbo.

A former chairman of Committee for Defence of Human Rights, CDHR and Coordinator of Amicab Ideological School Movement, ACISM, state of Osun branch, Comrade Akin Hasifat, has asked the Nigerian government to provide social amenities for the masses.

This he believes will foster and ensure that the citizens enjoy the real democracy day they fought for.

Hasifat while speaking with journalists in Osogbo, the capital of Osun on Friday, said June 12, 1993 is a significant event in the political history of Nigeria which represents the true struggle for democracy the nation began 21 years ago.

The Activist who said the day the said electorate sought for change and voted massively for the candidate of their choice without religious or ethnicity remains a pointer of reflection for those at the helms of affairs to act right and serve the interest of the masses.

He also urged government at all levels to ensure the entrenchment of dividends of democracy in both rural and urban areas.

Comrade Hasifat admonished the citizens to be consistent in their agitation to enjoy the goodies of good governance they have yearned for.

“Since the inception of democracy in Nigeria, its commemoration has always been that of a flamboyant ceremony that has no positive effect on the common masses.”

“There is nothing bad remembering June 12 especially to educate the younger generation, it must however be an avenue for reassurances of a better Nigeria.”

The CDHR Chieftain charged stakeholders in the nation’s politics to build parties that would allow Nigeria develop as a country blessed with both human and resources

According to him, “Nigeria masses remain the most hardworking in the world. What we expect from government is to improve our standard of living, provide infrastructural facilities, stable electricity, security, affordable and accessible health care system and quality education.

“Government should provide something that will bring food on the people’s table, we don’t want a situation whereby they need to buy slot or have political affiliation before getting a job , it must be based on who have the prerequisite, Nigerians want to work because their are not lazy.

“Democracy allows for the voice of the minority to be heard. We want things to be in that way. If government wants to make a policy, let’s come together and debate on it for the betterment of all,“ Comrade Hasifat stressed.
