The Ondo Police Command has said that the operatives of the Amotekun Corps are not permitted to monitor Saturday’s presidential election in the state.

Oyeyemi Adesoye, Commissioner of Police in Ondo, who stated this on Thursday, added that there would be restrictions on movement on election day.

Mr Adesoye said important personalities using police escorts would not be allowed throughout the election exercise.

“There will be no movement or escort of VIPs throughout the election period, while State Security outfits are not allowed to take part in the exercise,” the Ondo police boss was quoted in a statement issued by the command’s spokeswoman, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya.

Speaking further, the Ondo police boss said there would be restrictions on all forms of movement within the state from 12 midnight to 6 pm on Saturday.

He added that the directive was in line with the order of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman Baba.

“However, INEC officials, electoral observers, ambulances, fire fighters, and others on confirmed emergency services would be  considered,” he added.

Mr Adesoye assured the people of the state of adequate security throughout the exercise while also soliciting their support in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election.

“For any complaint during the election kindly call the Control Room Numbers: 07034313903, 09055543970  09055605807,” the police boss noted.
