The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun, on Thursday presented Certificates of Return to the 26 elected members of the Osun House of Assembly.
Dr Mutiu Agboke, the Osun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, speaking at the presentation event in Osogbo, said the issuance of the certificates was in line with the provision of Section 72 of the Electoral Act 2022.
“As we all know, presentation of Certificates of Return is in line with provision of Section 72 of Electoral Act (2022) which mandated the Commission to issue Certificate of Return to those who emerged as the winner in the Election conducted on Saturday, March 18, 2023 within 14 days.
“Further to this, I want to inform you that the Election of State House of Assembly in Osun State was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere, though with few challenges which were surmounted.
“We are happy to inform you that the election was conclusive and we do not have any case of supplementary Election in all the 26 state constituencies.
“I appreciate the effort of all Inter-Agency Consultative Committee On Election Security (ICCES) members and other stakeholders in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere to conducting free, fair, credible, inclusive and conclusive election.
“I also want to congratulate all the 26 elected members of the Osun State House of Assembly and urged them not to reproach the confidence bestow on them by the electorates, “to who much is given, much is expected.” he said
CityMirrorNews reports that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 25 of the 26 seats of the Osun House of Assembly while the All Progressives Congress won a seat during the March 18 State House of Assembly election conducted in the state .
