The residents and parents in Ile-Ife have commended Senator Ademola Adeleke for establishing a new secondary school named after Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the late Ooni of Ife. The school would be referred to as Oba Okunade Sijuade Memorial High School, Igbologbo, Opa, Ile-Ife.
The residents of Opa area described the establishment of the new school as a way of bringing education closer to the people which is one of the education policies of late Obafemi Awolowo to ensure that every child is educated .
It would be recalled that the people of Opa, Igbologbo, Agric, Alakowe and Ile Funfun had for long yearning for the establishment of public school in the area to reduce the burden of their children trecking long distance before having access to public education.
One of the parents who spoke on condition of anonymous said, the establishment of the public secondary school in the area is a blessing to them as it would reduce high school fees being charged by the private school owners especially in this present economic hardship where every parent is struggling to survive.
He commended the state government for the initiative, describing it as a good development in the state education sector by bringing schools closer to the people especially the children of the poor where they would have access to education.
Recalled that the school was establishment by the state government after a meeting with the Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Commissioner for Education, Hon Diipo Eluwole, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Alhaji M. A. K Jimoh and Director of Schools’ Administration and personnel, Osun East Education District, Alhaji Afeez Adereti, Ife East LGEA schools board chairman, Comrade Niyi Adefaye among others.
