Re: Misleading Remarks by Mr. Segun Sowunmi on Arise TV

It is both shocking and disappointing that a self-acclaimed PDP chieftain, Mr. Segun Sowunmi, would go on national television (Arise News, October 6, 2025) to make false and misleading statements on a matter he clearly has no factual understanding of – particularly concerning the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project and its associated controversies.

For a man who claims to be an opposition figure, Mr. Sowunmi appeared more like a spokesperson for the ruling APC than a representative of the PDP. His remarks echoed government propaganda while completely disregarding verifiable facts, the anguish of affected investors, and the destruction of people’s hard-earned investments along the project corridor.

It was, however, commendable that the Arise TV anchors – Dr. Reuben Abati, Rufai Oseni, and Ayo Mairo-Ese – challenged his inconsistencies and exposed his lack of factual grounding. His admission of disinterest in investigating the glaring irregularities surrounding the project only confirmed his shallow understanding of the issues at stake.

Mr. Sowunmi’s outburst is, unfortunately, not surprising. Like many politicians of convenience, he seems more interested in stomach infrastructure than in truth, justice, or national interest. His reckless call for a woman who has already sued the government to be prosecuted again reveals both ignorance of the law and a disturbing contempt for due process.

It is unheard of in any responsible democracy for a member of an opposition party to publicly defend and promote the policies of a ruling party against his own party’s interests and the legitimate grievances of citizens seeking redress. Such shameful conduct explains why the PDP continues to lose credibility – weakened from within by individuals whose loyalty can be purchased at any price.

A word of advice to Mr. Segun Sowunmi:
If you have now chosen to serve as an unofficial spokesperson for the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, please do so openly and honorably. But kindly steer clear of issues concerning diaspora investments – subjects on which you clearly lack both information and understanding.

The Nigerians in Diaspora and foreign investors you so casually referenced have invested their hard-earned resources in faith and patriotism. They deserve truth, justice, and respect – not political propaganda.
