UNN Student Dies After Alleged Mob Beating Over Suspected Phone Theft

A tragic incident has occurred at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where a student has reportedly died after being allegedly beaten by fellow students over a suspected case of phone theft.

The incident took place at the Eni Njoku male hostel on the university campus.

The identity of the deceased student has not yet been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

The incident was made public on Thursday through a Facebook post by popular social media influencer, Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi.

According to him, the student was dragged out of his room and brutally assaulted by other hostel occupants, leaving him with severe and life-threatening injuries.

Ugwuanyi wrote; “UNN Student Dies After Beating at Eni Njoku Hostel. A sad incident was reported at Eni Njoku male hostel in UNN, where a student allegedly died after being beaten by other hostel residents over a suspected phone theft. The student was dragged out and beaten, which left him with serious injuries. Efforts to save his life did not succeed. Authorities of the University of Nigeria Nsukka will now do like nothing happened inside UNN.”

As the news spread across social media, many students and members of the university community expressed shock and concern over the rising cases of jungle justice within the institution.

When contacted, the acting Public Relations Officer of UNN, Inya Agha Egwu, told DAILY POST that he was currently away in Lagos and unable to provide immediate details or an official statement on the incident.

However, a senior lecturer at the university confirmed the development and described it as disturbing and unacceptable.

“Yes, the incident happened. It was a very big shock that such would happen in a university community. The individuals involved must be punished,” the lecturer said.

The UNN management is yet to issue a formal statement, but concerns continue to grow over student safety, hostel security, and the need to curb mob action within the campus.
