Gunmen Kill Man, Abduct Woman In Suspected Kidnap Attack in Edo

A suspected kidnapping incident has claimed the life of a man and led to the abduction of a woman at Igbira Camp in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Eyewitnesses said the victims were returning home on a motor- cycle when armed men, believed to be kidnappers, suddenly intercepted them along the road.

During the attack, the male victim was said to have resisted the gunmen and struggled with them in an effort to stop the abduction. In the course of the confrontation, he was reportedly shot and killed. The assailants thereafter whisked the woman away to an unknown destination, while abandoning the body of the deceased at the scene.

The identity of the abducted woman had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report. The incident has heightened anxiety among residents of the area, particularly as it reportedly occurred close to a military checkpoint, prompting questions about the level of security within the community.

Residents expressed frustration over what they described as a deteriorating security situation in the Auchi axis, noting that kidnapping incidents have allegedly continued for more than six months without notable arrests.

Many community members said the development has become increasingly worrisome, especially as attacks are said to be taking place even in areas located near security formations.

The situation, they noted, has renewed calls for strengthened security presence and improved intelligencedriven operations to tackle the rising insecurity.

Residents also emphasized the need for closer collaboration between security agencies and local communi- ties, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements.
