Osun LG Chairmen Donate 60 Patrol Vehicles

…Pledge Support for Security Agencies

As part of efforts to strengthen security and enhance public safety, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, on Saturday distributed additional 60 security patrol vehicles to security agencies across the state.

Speaking, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, Mr. Abiodun Idowu, said the donation of patrol vehicles to security agencies reflects the commitment of local government councils to supporting efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.

Idowu stated that the distribution of the remaining patrol vehicles fulfilled a promise made by the association following the first phase of the exercise conducted a few weeks ago.

He stressed that security remains the foundation for meaningful development, noting that no society can achieve sustainable progress without peace and stability.

According to him, local governments, being the closest tier of government to the people, are better positioned to understand the security challenges confronting communities and respond appropriately.

He commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace and ensuring law and order across Osun State.

Idowu urged security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure adequate protection of lives and property before, during, and after the forthcoming election.

He added that the patrol vehicles would enhance operational mobility, reduce response time to emergencies, and improve crime prevention across the state.

While appreciating the sacrifices of security personnel, he described the donation as a demonstration of the councils’ support and recognition of their efforts.

He charged the beneficiary agencies to ensure the judicious use and proper maintenance of the vehicles to guarantee effective service delivery.

Earlier, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, described the donation as a strategic intervention that would strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies in the state.

Gotan assured residents that the vehicles would be deployed strictly for operational duties and maintained properly to achieve their intended purpose.

“As beneficiaries of this support, we assure members of the public that these vehicles will be deployed judiciously and utilised solely for the protection of lives and property and the maintenance of peace across Osun State,” he said.

The police commissioner also commended the existing synergy among security agencies in the state, noting that effective policing requires cooperation and coordinated efforts.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Osun State Police Command to providing a safe and secure environment where residents can carry out their lawful activities without fear, while urging the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to combat crime.
