Governors Yilwatda, Others Honour APC Scribe’s Mother at Burial

The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, his Ondo State counterpart, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, were among prominent dignitaries who attended the burial of Mrs Sidikat Basiru, mother of the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The dignitaries joined family members, political associates and friends at the Janazah prayer held at Ansarudeen Central Mosque Cemetery, Sabo, Osogbo before the remains of the deceased were laid to rest.

In a condolence message while speaking with journalists, the Osun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji commiserated with the family of the party National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru over the death of his mother.

Oyebamiji prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant her eternal rest and comfort the family she left behind.

Also speaking, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Sarafadeen Alli expressed condolences over the death of the elderly woman, praying for the repose of her soul and unity among her family members.

Alli prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive her shortcomings and grant her Aljanah Firdaous, the highest level of paradise.

“May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Aljanah Firdaous. I pray that there will be unity in the family after the departure of our beloved mother. May her death bring many good things to us in Osun State and Nigeria generally,” Alli said

Speaking shortly after the burial, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru described his late mother, Mrs Sidikat Basiru as a woman of great sacrifice, love and dedication.

He said his mother efforts in raising him and his elder brother were never in vain.

He said despite not being a wealthy woman, his mother made several sacrifices to ensure that her children received quality education and proper upbringing.

According to him, Mrs Basiru sold her personal belongings, including her cherished porcelain items and engaged in petty trading to pay her children’s school fees and provide for their needs.

“I would say that I give glory to Almighty Allah for a life well spent. She was an embodiment of industry, love, and self-sacrifice in bringing my senior brother and me up.

“She was not a woman of means, but whatever she had, she gave to us so that we could get an education and be well-bred. I remember that while we were growing up, she sold her goods, and for a woman to sell her trinkets for the purpose of paying her children’s school fees and raising them was a great sacrifice. At some point, she even sold her porcelain items, which were cherished possessions for women in Yoruba land and across Africa.

“All said and done, we give glory to Almighty Allah that her sacrifices were not in vain. She was able to raise two young boys into responsible men, and today we thank God that she is being celebrated across the country and beyond.

“She was a devoted Muslim who brought us up in the way of Allah. In fact, some of the few times we had disagreements were when I was not diligent with my prayer times. For my mother, whatever one did, if one failed to observe prayers at the right time, it did not sit well with her,” he added.
