Herbert Wigwe, Chief Executive Of Access Holdings Plc, has died.

Wigwe died in a helicopter crash in California, USA on Friday.

Here are 11 things you need to know about Wigwe.

Herbert Wigwe died at the age of 58.

He was born on qaAugust 15, 1966.

Degree in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Enugu State.

He holds an MA in Banking and Finance from University College of North Wales (now Bangor) and an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of London.

Wigwe started his career as a Management Consultant with Coopers & Lybrand, Lagos and later qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

After a stint at Capital Bank, he joined Guaranty Trust Bank where he worked in corporate banking for over a decade, becoming Executive Director of Institutional Banking Wigwe also served as the Chairman of Access Bank Ghana Limited, Access Investment and Securities Limited and the Central Securities and Clearing System (CSCS).

He was Chairman of Access Bank (UK) Limited until his death.

In 2016, the Boys’ Brigade (BB) inaugurated Herbert Wigwe as National Assistant to the Lagos State Council in recognition of his “exemplary role in the community and contribution to youth development”.

Wigwe was named Banker of the Year 2016 by The Sun and Vanguard newspapers separately.

In 2016, Wigwe founded The HOW Foundation, a non-profit organization.

In October 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari honored him as Commander-in-Chief of the Order of the Niger (CON) of Nigeria.

The deceased is outside Wigwe University in Isiokpo, Rivers State.

The university is expected to start in September 2024.
