Residents of Ikire in Irewole Local Government area of Osun State yesterday erupted with joy as Senator Lere Oyewumi, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, begins the long-awaited asphalt laying of the Oke-Ola/Anajere/Ile-Sagba Oluofinrin Road.

This major project, which has been a long-standing need for the community, promises to significantly improve transportation and economic opportunities.

“We are overjoyed to finally see this road being paved,” said Mrs. Adeola Adebayo, a resident of Oke-Ola.

“This road has been in a deplorable state for years, making it difficult for us to get around, especially during the rainy season and with dust choking us in the dry season. We are grateful to Senator Oyewumi for listening to our pleas and making this dream a reality.”

Mr. Hammed Abayomi, another resident, commended the quality of the work, particularly the robust drainage system and the thick asphalt designed to withstand heavy-duty vehicles. He expressed optimism that the road would have lasting durability, a significant improvement for the community.

Commercial motorcyclist,Emmanuel lamented the dangers posed by the road, citing the frequent accidents that left many injured. According to him, the slippery conditions during the rainy season were particularly treacherous.

Residents like Mrs. Abidemi Oyetola expressed gratitude, noting that the initiative rekindles hope in the government’s commitment to the community’s welfare. She believes the road upgrade will stimulate economic activities and encourage shop owners who had abandoned their businesses to return.

Mrs. Sina Kikelomo, a shop owner, also thanked Senator Oyewumi, recounting how prolonged exposure to dust from the bad road had once made her ill. She applauded the ongoing construction as a life-changing development for the area.

Senator Oyewumi, known for his commitment to community development, expressed his delight at the commencement of the project.

According to him, “This road is a testament to our commitment to improving the lives of our people. We believe that by investing in infrastructure, we are creating a brighter future for Ikire.”

The asphalt laying of the Oke-Ola/Anajere/Ile-Sagba Oluofinrin Road is a clear indication of Senator Oyewumi’s dedication to serving his constituents and his commitment to bringing about positive change in Ikire.
