The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy, COPDEM, Osun State Chapter, has admonished well meaning Nigerian and philanthropist to always assist the needy as the government cannot do it alone.
The COPDEM Chairman, Oguntola Kehinde Joshua, made this appeal while speaking with newsmen on Sunday at the distribution of food items to both the Muslims and Christians as the Ramadan and Lenten period ongoing.
The colourful and well attended programme which commenced with the distribution of Semo Vita, Packet of Magi, Bournvita among other food items was aimed to support the people during this period.
According to the COPDEM Chairman, “We should not leave everything for the government to do as we have to support them in our own little way to alleviate the suffering of the people at this point in time hence the distribution of food items programme.
“That is why we are calling on the philanthropist and well meaning Nigerian to come to the aid of the people who are indeed in need of our support.
“We have our Executive throughout the 30 Local government areas of Osun state, and our group, COPDEM, goal is to protect our democracy from corrupt Politicians and Leaders that are contesting for their own selfish interest”.
The State Executives that accompanied the State Chairman includes, Hon Popoola Yeeken, Mr Adedigba Moses and Mr Oladuni Ebenezer among others.
Beneficiaries of the food items, Mrs Fatimoh Adeleke and Pastor Micheal Abegunde on behalf of others, in their word of appreciation said the food items given by the COPDEM was a timely one at the point of need while appealing to other groups to emulate them.
Meanwhile, the Ayedaade Local Government, Executive, Mr Oke Oluwatobi who was highly elated appreciated the people that have come from far and near for the food distribution saying the COPDEM would not rest on its oars in pursuing the development and betterment of all and sundry.
