The Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has described as mere rumour, the plan by the party to suspend Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike’s other members, from the party.

There were rumours that Wike and some other PDP members, including three former governors, who worked against the party in the 2023 general election, will be suspended from the party.

But Oyinlola who spoke on Monday after meeting with members of the National Assembly, stated that until after the committee’s meeting on Tuesday with members of the National Working Committee (NWC), “I will take that one (Wike’s suspension) as rumours.”

The former Osun State governor explained that the meeting with the National Assembly members was to share their experiences as to what is causing the dwindling fortunes of the party politically.

“We have had useful discussions with them and I think there are suggestions that we have our party to unite as the main formidable. That is what has happened this evening,” he said.

Oyinlola emphasised the need for unity, arguing that “for any party to be able to go into battle and win, it must be united. And that is what we are going for.”

He disclosed that the committee had undertaken a tour of the states in the South West, and said the party is putting its strategies in place towards winning the November 16 Ondo governorship election.

Oyinlola however did not disclose the strategies, adding, “As a general of 30 years’ experience, you don’t declare your strategy in the public, if not you will lose the war.”
