Flash: Trump Rescued Unhurt After Shot Fired At White House Dinner

Security operatives swiftly evacuated the United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump and other dignitaries from the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night after gunshots were reported at the venue.

Sunday Telegraph gathered that the incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were attending the high-profile gathering alongside journalists, government officials and guests.

Eyewitnesses said the sound of multiple gunshots confused the hall, as security agents immediately moved to secure the area and evacuate attendees.

Amid the commotion, agents were heard shouting, “Stay down, stay down”, as they ushered the president and other protected individuals out of the venue.

Authorities later confirmed that no protected persons were harmed.

“The president, first lady and all other protectees are safe,” officials said.

Security sources disclosed that between seven and eight shots were fired during the incident. An officer who sustained injuries was reportedly shielded by protective gear.

President Trump later said the injured officer “was protected by a bulletproof vest and was in good condition.”

Law enforcement officials said preliminary findings indicate that the suspect acted alone. The assailant was reportedly armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives.

Investigators reviewing surveillance footage said the suspect breached a security screening area before being confronted by armed agents.

The event, which had drawn about 2,600 attendees, was immediately called off following the incident.

The White House Correspondents’ Association, organisers of the dinner, said the safety of guests remains paramount as investigations continue.

The annual dinner, established in 1921, traditionally brings together journalists and government officials, while also raising funds for journalism scholarships and promoting press freedom.

The latest incident comes amid heightened security concerns, as Donald Trump had previously survived two assassination attempts during the 2024 election campaign.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
