My Manhood Works Only in My Wife’s Presence, Man Tells Court

A 51-year-old man, Francis Daka, who was sued for divorce before the Lusaka Boma Local Court in Zambia, has pleaded for his marriage to be preserved, claiming that in the absence of his wife, his manhood becomes inactive and reduced in function.

Daka, a resident of Linda Compound, said ending his 32-year marriage to Grace Mwanza, with whom he has nine children, would leave him unable to perform sexually, adding that efforts to reverse his condition were no longer possible following the death of a traditional consultant.

He told the court that his condition could be verified, stating that there was a noticeable difference in his physical state compared to when he is with his wife.

However, no court official volunteered to confirm his claim.

According to Zambia Observer, Daka said the only time he functions normally is when he is alone with his wife, stressing that his condition is tied to their relationship.

Meanwhile, Grace insisted that she no longer wanted to continue the marriage, accusing Daka of being verbally abusive, including in the presence of their children.

She alleged that during disagreements, Daka would lock her outside the house and sometimes send her away, despite their joint ownership of property and vehicles.

Grace further told the court that Daka was also harsh towards their children, recalling an incident where he abandoned one of them in Luangwa District while travelling.

At her insistence, Justice Martha Tembo dissolved the marriage, ruling that children under 18 should remain with their mother, while the older ones would stay with their father.

The court also ordered Daka to pay K15,000 as compensation to his ex-wife in monthly instalments of K1,000, along with K1,000 for child support, excluding medical and school expenses.

Justice Tembo further directed that all properties acquired during the marriage be equally shared between both parties.
