AAC Aspirant, Folaranmi Appeals to Nat’l Committee over Osun-East Senatorial Primary Dispute

An aspirant for the Osun-East Senatorial District under the African Action Congress (AAC), Hon. Omotayo Folaranmi, has appealed to the party’s National Committee to intervene in the controversy surrounding the party’s primary election process.

Folaranmi made the appeal shortly after meeting with the state leadership in Osogbo Osun State capital on Saturday.

The party had scheduled Saturday for its East senatorial primaries held Behind Ralade filling station.

Folaranmi urged the party’s National Committee to relinquish the Osun-East Senatorial ticket to him following the withdrawal of his co-contender, Mojeed Olawale, to pursue the House of Representatives ticket.

He urged his supporters to remain calm while awaiting the party leaders’ final resolution.

According to him, “Today is our primary election, but the committee informed us yesterday that only old members would be allowed to vote, excluding the new members. They do not want all party members to participate in the voting process. INEC officials have already left the venue, and we are currently trying to resolve the issue.

“The other aspirant suggested that if that should be the case, both of us should settle for the House of Representatives ticket, but I am pursuing the Senate seat, not the House of Representatives.

“I have been working towards the Senate seat for a very long time. I want to appeal to the National Committee to give its final judgment on the matter. My opponent has stepped down to take the House of Representatives ticket, but I still want to contest for the Senate seat.

“I also want to plead with my supporters to remain calm. I want to appeal to national to ensure fairness and justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, the African Action Congress (AAC) Chairman, Tayo Adeyemi, said the party still does not have any candidate for the Osun-East Senatorial District.
