Breaking: IGP Disu oders mass transfer of 1,332 Delta officers over killing

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the transfer of 1,332 police officers from the Delta State Command following the alleged extrajudicial killing of a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun.

The directive comes amid widespread public outrage over the incident, reportedly involving an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman.

According to an internal wireless message dated May 3, 2026, and issued from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the affected officers are to be redeployed to various commands across the country with immediate effect.

The communication, addressed to senior officers and departments nationwide, outlined the large-scale redeployment and instructed all relevant units to ensure strict compliance.

“The Inspector-General of Police directs you to warn transferees to proceed to their new commands accordingly with immediate effect (W.I.E.),” the document stated.

It was circulated to Deputy Inspectors-General overseeing key departments, Assistant Inspectors-General in charge of specialised units, as well as commissioners of police in all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory.

The signal also directed receiving commands to submit details of officers who report at their new postings to the Inspector-General’s Secretariat and the Office of the Force Secretary on or before May 22, 2026.

Signed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Bode Akinbamilowo on behalf of the Force Secretary, the document emphasised that all transferees must proceed to their new commands without delay, as the police hierarchy moves to address the fallout from the controversial killing.
