Oyebamiji’s Wife Donates 500 Sanitary Pads To Osun Schoolgirls

The wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Dr Mrs Sekinat Bola Oyebamiji, has donated 1,000 units of sanitary pads to secondary school girls in Iwo, declaring that no girl should be forced to miss school because of menstruation.

Dr Oyebamiji made the donation on Friday during the “Pad Up Girls 2026” sanitary pad support outreach organised by the Federation of Iwoland Students’ Union (FILSU) as part of activities marking FILSU Day 2026.

Speaking at the event themed “Pad A Girl, Empower A Future,” the president of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) in Osun State stressed the need for greater support and protection for the girl-child, particularly in the areas of menstrual hygiene and education.

She said many African girls face enormous developmental challenges, including poverty and lack of access to sanitary products, which often affect their education and self-esteem.

According to her, period poverty remains a major challenge that forces many girls to miss between three and five school days monthly, thereby negatively impacting their academic progress.

“No girl should miss school because of menstruation,” she said, while urging governments, organisations and well-meaning individuals to support initiatives targeted at improving menstrual hygiene among young girls.

Dr Oyebamiji commended FILSU for sustaining advocacy programmes focused on empowering girls and promoting healthier living conditions for women and children in the community, and also charged parents and students to support her husband in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

She assured that his administration would continue to prioritise education and provide a conducive learning environment for students across the state.

According to her, the progress and development of Osun State remain a top priority for her husband.

She noted that supporting the girl-child would ultimately translate into a healthier and more balanced society, adding that empowered girls contribute significantly to economic growth and human development.

The MWAN president also warned against unhygienic menstrual practices, including the use of rags and leaves, saying such practices expose girls to serious health risks and rob them of dignity and confidence.

“As a token of my support for your efforts, and in commemoration of FILSU Day 2026, on behalf of myself and my family, I hereby pledge to donate one thousand units of quality sanitary pads for immediate distribution to secondary school girls,” she stated.

She further called on youth-focused and women-centred organisations to collaborate in tackling period poverty and ensuring that girls have access to proper menstrual hygiene products.

The outreach attracted students, youth leaders, women’s groups and community stakeholders from across Iwoland.
