Breaking: Police Invade Osun NUJ Secretary’s Apartment, Whisk Him Away
The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju, was reportedly arrested by police officers at his residence in Osogbo on Thursday morning.
The development was confirmed by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council, Adeyemi Aboderin.
According to information made available to journalists, armed policemen allegedly stormed Akindoju’s apartment in the early hours of Thursday and whisked him away to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Osogbo.
Sources within the NUJ said the circumstances surrounding the arrest remain unclear, as neither the police nor the journalist’s associates had been informed of the reasons for his detention at the time of filing this report.
The incident has generated concern among members of the journalism community in the state, with colleagues calling for transparency regarding the arrest and the allegations, if any, against the union official.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Osun State Police Command were unsuccessful as of press time.
The police authorities are yet to issue a statement explaining the circumstances that led to Akindoju’s arrest or confirming the reasons for his detention.
