Diaspora Group Urges Tinubu To Intervene In Kwara APC Crisis
The Diaspora Alliance for Kwara Development has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately intervene in the deepening crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.
The crisis, precipitated by the Governor’s withdrawal of his earlier endorsement of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki and the conduct of a shabby, controversial primary that has left the party bitterly divided, threatens to hand the state back to the opposition on a platter.
It is inconceivable that the Governor, who publicly backed Ambassador Seriki as his preferred successor, has now thrown his weight behind Danladi, the Speaker of the State Assembly, a candidate widely viewed as unpopular and lacking broad acceptance within the party.
With at least ten other aspirants kicking against this choice, the question remains: How does the Governor intend to win the 2027 governorship election with a candidate rejected by large sections of the APC?
This self-inflicted wound comes at a dangerous moment. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is regaining momentum in Kwara, riding on the political comeback of former Governor Bukola Saraki.
The portents are clear: a fractured APC cannot withstand a resurgent opposition determined to reclaim the state it lost in the historic Otoge upheaval.
Ambassador Abdulfatai Seriki Yahaya Seriki remains the undisputed people’s choice. He enjoys massive popularity among the youth, who form the largest voting demographic in Kwara.
His concrete impact on the state’s economy, his consistent empowerment of young Kwarans, his championship of progressive causes, and his proven record of creating employment opportunities for the teeming youth have endeared him to Kwarans across generations.
More importantly, Ambassador Seriki was instrumental in the Otoge movement that dismantled the Saraki dynasty. He is the leader Kwarans need at this hour to consolidate and advance the developmental gains of the current administration.
As Kwarans in the Diaspora, we are deeply alarmed that if President Tinubu fails to intervene decisively as the clock ticks toward the 2027 elections, the APC risks a woeful defeat in Kwara.
We state unequivocally that if this anomaly is corrected and Ambassador Seriki is allowed to fly the party’s flag, Kwarans in the Diaspora will mobilise funds and people at home to deliver victory for the APC at all levels.
President Tinubu is a strategic leader who understands what is at stake. He will not allow Kwara to fall back into the hands of the opposition. The time to act is now.
