Ondo Police Dismiss Rumours of Bandit Invasion in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has debunked rumours circulating in parts of Akure and on social media alleging that bandits have invaded the state capital.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command described the reports as false and misleading, assuring residents that there is no credible intelligence indicating the presence of bandits within Akure metropolis.

According to the statement, comprehensive security assessments and intelligence-gathering efforts carried out by the police have not revealed any threat that should cause panic or disrupt normal activities in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, urged residents, particularly parents, guardians, students and school authorities, not to be alarmed by unverified information capable of creating unnecessary fear and anxiety.

He assured the public that adequate security measures have been put in place across the state to safeguard lives and property, encouraging students to continue their academic activities without apprehension.

The command also warned against the deliberate spread of false information, stressing that individuals found disseminating misinformation intended to incite panic or cause public disorder would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

While calling on residents to remain vigilant, the police urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or designated emergency channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace and security across Ondo State, the command advised residents to rely only on verified information from official sources.
