Mozambique Hall Alumni Launch MOZA @50, Unveil N500m Empowerment Fund

The Chairperson of the MOZA @50 Reunion Committee, Dr. Bisi Anyadike, has announced the launch of the MOZA @50 Golden Jubilee Celebration alongside a N500 million empowerment fund for Mozambique Hall.

Anyadike made the announcement during a news conference held at Mozambique Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, on Friday.

She described Mozambique Hall, established in 1976, as one of the university’s iconic female hostels that has produced generations of leaders, professionals, and change-makers across Nigeria and beyond.

According to her, the empowerment fund will support the renovation and maintenance of Mozambique Hall, provide scholarships and academic assistance for indigent OAU students, and finance health, welfare, and mentorship programmes for both current and former residents.

She added that the initiative is designed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the hall and preserve its legacy for the next 50 years.

“A Board of Trustees (BoT), comprising distinguished Mozambiqeens, has been inaugurated to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective stewardship of the fund,” she said.

Anyadike further disclosed that activities lined up for the golden jubilee celebration include a grand reunion gala, to be held both physically and virtually, the dedication of the hall, inauguration of infrastructure projects, an awards night, health outreach, community service, and a public fundraising campaign.

She noted that MOZA @50 is more than a celebration, describing it as “a covenant to secure the future of the hall and empower the next generation of Mozambiqeens.”

She urged members of the public, alumni, and other stakeholders to support the initiative in building a lasting legacy.

According to her, the reunion committee will provide scholarships for indigent students, mentorship opportunities, infrastructure development, technical support, and empowerment programmes for Mozambiqeens. She added that this is the maiden edition of the reunion.

The Hall Warden, Mrs. Juliana Adesopo, thanked God for His faithfulness over the years and pledged that every effort would be made to ensure the proper maintenance of the hostel.

One of the students, Joy Adekunle, commended the Mozambique Hall committee for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the hostel. She, however, identified challenges such as inadequate toilet facilities, water supply, and environmental sanitation.

Also speaking, the Hall President, Miss Ojokanla Ayomide, expressed appreciation to the alumni for organising the proposed reunion, noting that the initiative would improve the welfare and overall well-being of Mozambiqeens.
