The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called off the planned nationwide protest against the proposed removal of fuel subsidy.

The protests against the planned removal of subsidy were supposed to hold on Thursday (Jan 27) and February 2, 2022 nationwide.

The NLC said it took the decision at its National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday morning.

The Congress said the decision to suspend the protest was based on the Federal Government’s reversal of its stand on subsidy.

President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, broke the news at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

Wabba said the position of government on subsidy was communicated to the Congress with calls for further engagement.

He said members of the NLC mobilised would be demobilised following the decision to suspend the protest while commending its civil society allies for their support.

The NLC President also hailed workers and the people for their unwavering solidarity and support during the struggle.

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed had on Tuesday assured that the government would not remove subsidy from petrol in June which would have led to increase in price.
