A strange practice has been uncovered in rewolede Adeiye Community, Ona-Ara local government area of Oyo state as community forced new tenants to take oath before joining the community.
It was gathered that the said practice has been on for more than fifteen years in that community without cautioned to desist from the act.
The victim of the ordeal incident who identified as Alfa Abdulmalik Abdulhameed, who secured a room self contained apartment at Irewolede Adeiye Community along Ayetoro Road, Muslim Bus stop, off Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
Abdulhameed’s landlord Mrs Morufa Ayoade who is working and residing in Abuja linked the victim up with Mr Sikiru Ayoade that later took him to the Irewolede Adeiye Landlord and landlady Association in May 2022.
Three months after Abdulhameed
moved into his apartment with wife, around September, the community leader informed them about the oath they need to observed as a tenant in the area.
It was revealed that any new tenant or anyone who moving from one house to another within the Community, must swear an oath using Qu’ran, Bible or Guns/Cutlasses.
The oath according to information said that the leadership of the community head by Alhaji Adekunle Anisho said the practice has been on for more than 15 years.
While Abdulhameed and wife, Hameedah were invited to the community meeting to take an oath by Qu’ran which both of they declined to make any oath.
It was learnt that the community later gave the couple 15 days notice to vacate the community following declined of the couple.
The medium gathered that the couple left with no opportunity than return to the Association meeting following week to take the oath by force by fire.
The oath was administered on Abdulhameed and his wife in the presence of all, and they were then asked to hit their foreheads with the Holy Qu’ran three times at this point, the couple declined which they said the act is against the teachings of Islam and their belief.
The couple were harassed and humiliated and served another vacation order to the couple.
The couple asked to leave on Saturday 23 October 2022 or to be disgraced out of the community before the intervention of a Human rights group, Advocate in Defence Of Human Rights and Culture, (ADHURIC) Oyo state branch on the matter.
The group took the boo by horn by the association to rethink their order to vacate Abdulhameed and desist from acting arbitrarily in violation of other people’s right.
ADHURIC state branch headed by Comrade David Abiodun Agboola wrote a petitioned the Nigeria Police Division, Ogbere, Ona-Ara in October
The group said that the community frustrated the effort of the DPO of the Division that called for meeting with Community chairman and secretary on Friday 22, October.
The group called on the government to eradicate the abuse of citizen’s fundamental rights across the country.
