Ekiti State government has approved the appointment of Prince Moses Ogundana Akinwande as the new Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government Area of the state.’
The government approved at the state executive council meeting held at the executive chamber, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti, on Wednesday last week.
A release signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, noted that Prince Akinwande Ogundana of Iledin Ruling House got the approval of the state government after kingmakers and the entire community had selected Prince Ogundana as the best among the contestants for the vacant stool through ifa divination process without any rancour.
It will be recalled that the election of Prince Ogundana as Oba-elect came after the demise of Oba Julius Olalere Falaki, who joined his ancestors on August 25, 2022.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the kingmakers, in the presence of the people of the community, organised an open and fair ifa divination process at the palace of Onikoyi, where Prince Akinwande Ogundana was picked by ifa divination as the best candidate.
The community’s people were in a happy mood for having a new traditional ruler, just as they see Prince Ogundana as a person who will use his wealth of experience in the public and private sectors to transform the community for the better.
Addressing the community on Thursday last week, Prince Moses Akinwande Ogundana thanked all indigenes of Ikoyi at home and in the diaspora for their efforts and support in ensuring his election as Oba-elect was rancour-free.
He said: “Top of the day to all sons and daughters of Ikoyi-Ekiti kingdom both at home and in the diaspora, I’m using this opportunity to appreciate you all for your unwavering support for me during the race to ascend the throne of my forebears.
“If not for your support and cooperation, this would not have been achieved, I also congratulate my co-contestants for running a good race with me, and I want everyone of them to know that we are all winners.
“I encourage everybody to let us come together to lift our community to greater heights and recover all lost glories and take its rightful place in the comity of towns in Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria in general.”
