The winner of the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Montreal, Camila Giorgi , talks to WTA Insider about her mental balance and what art has to do with it.
For one or the other inexperienced tennis eye, it could have come as a surprise that Camila Giorgi was able to grab her first major WTA Tour 1000 title at last week’s hard court event in Montreal. However, if you look at her last appearances in the women’s circus, you will find plenty of impressive results – with a preference for high-ranking opponents. Karolina Pliskova in particular is likely to be the symbolic favorite dish of the Italian, as the North Bohemian had to admit defeat to the 29-year-old three times in the last two months of the 29-year-old.
In an interview with WTA Insider, after her coup in North America, Giorgi made it clear what part her family, especially her father, played in her career: “They were always there, in bad, good and amazing moments. There are so many happy moments on and off the pitch. I am very proud of my father because first and foremost he is a great father, but also simply extraordinary as a coach. ”
Balance off the pitch is important
When asked why it took a little longer before the first big title could be won, despite her talent that has long been said of her, the right-hander gave her critics a clear refusal: “From outside the field you can easily say that one could do better. Even I can play soccer from the sofa, although I have no idea how to play soccer in real life. So it happens when it is supposed to. ”
With her mother, who was a contemporary art teacher, and who created the fashion label “Giomila” with her daughter, she also worked out the balance in her life: “My father was sport, my mother was art. We went to shops and museums. So my life has always been very full. Tennis is just a job in my opinion. You can have a bad day, but then there are other things in life. You have friends, you can go out. I also like to read. I would like to become a writer one day. ”
Outside the field, the ambitious world number 71 sprays. sheer joie de vivre – especially when she lingers in her preferred metropolis: “I always enjoy being in Paris because it’s my favorite city. I love the Louvre, the Musee d’Orsay. ”But Giorgi is also not averse to other locations:“ I always try to take trips to different places in Italy with my mother because there is a lot of art in Italian history. I think this is real life. “
