Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of pensioners and workers in the state.
Speaking at an event organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC to celebrate the pensioners in the state held at Pensions House, Kolabalogun, Osogbo to celebrate pensioners, Adeleke emphasized that the past two years have seen unprecedented attention to pensioners and pension matters.
According to the governor, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Pension Bureau, Mr. Raji noted that, for the past two years as a Governor, he has worked hard to put his principles into practice especially his promises to alleviate the suffering of the pensioners and workers in the state.
The governor said, the last two years have witnessed unprecedented attention to pensioners and pension matters.
“Beyond our paying up on the inherited debt, we have made a lot of positive advances in putting up institutional structures for prompt action on pension matters”
“We are further exploring all avenues to bring the government even more closer to the pensioners. As a government we consider ways out of inherited pension debt and other issues including non-delay of pension processing. Our focus is to ensure sustainable care and support for the senior citizens” Adeleke added.
Speaking, the state chairperson of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo said, the program was the fulfilment of his electioneering campaign for the pensioners that, his administration would set aside a day to celebrate the elderly ones, who have served the state meritoriously.
He noted that, the pensioners worth to be celebrated, adding that, he has put it as a point of duty to do so, once in a year throughout his tenure in office.
Arapasopo noted that, this year pensioners day was organised to appreciate the pensioners in the state for their support.
He, on behalf of the pensioners applauded governor Ademola Adeleke for graciously approved #25,000.00 as pension wages for the state pensioners, saying, the entire workforce and retirees in the state are grateful to governor Adeleke.
“I want to say emphatically on behalf of all the entire workforce and retirees in the state that, Ademola Adeleke till 2030”
The event witnessed award presentation to 5 pensioners for their contributions towards the development of the state.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, The Special Adviser to the governor on Labour and Industrial Relations, Comrade Bamidele Oyebade thanked the state NLC under Comrade Christopher Arapasopo for counting the pensioners worthy to be celebrated and awarded.
He said, the honour would not be taken for granted and assured governor Ademola Adeleke of pensioners supported all the time.
The state chairman of NUP, Prince Ganiyu Salawu applaud Comrade Christopher Arapasopo and the entire labour unions in the state for the honour bestowed on the pensioners to be celebrated, adding that, the pensioners will not relent in its oars by giving necessary support for the governor and the other labour unions in the state.
